Role Purpose: Responsible for fitting and welding of steel, aluminium and stainless-steel parts using a MIG and/or TIG process.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Reads and interprets blueprints and machine drawings to determine specific welding requirements, layout, and procedures.
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
- Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
- Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Grind or clean weld joint of work piece.
- Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
- Positions and clamps work pieces together or assembles them in jig or fixtures.
- Selects torch, torch tip, filler ford and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of material.
- Tacks assemblies together.
- Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
- Cleans or de-greases parts.
- Performs all necessary maintenance and repair on all equipment used in welding.
- Be able to move parts in and move finished product out of welding area.
- Follow all safety rules and quality standards.
- Other duties as assigned.

Critical Competencies
- Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to factional equivalents and fractions to decimal equivalents.
- Ability to stand continuously for long periods of time.
- Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read blueprints.

Education and/or Experience:
- 3 years related experience and/or training.
- Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or trade school preferred.
- Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) is a plus.
