The Breakdown:
Burton Snowboards is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Rapid Prototyping Specialist with a strong emphasis on 3D Printing to join our Product Innovation team. This role will be pivotal in advancing our rapid prototyping capabilities, supporting product development, and accelerating innovation. The specialist will manage all aspects of 3D printing operations, from model preparation and material selection to post-processing and quality control, ensuring high-performance prototypes that push the boundaries of snowboard design and technology.
What You Get to Do:

Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of 3D printing technologies, including FDM, SLA, SLS, and MultiJet Fusion.

Prepare and optimize3D models for printing using CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360) and slicing programs (Cura, PreForm, GrabCADPrint).

Select and test materials for durability, flexibility, and performance specific to snowboard component prototyping.

Conduct post-processing operations such as sanding, support removal, resin curing, and finishing to meet final part specifications.

Utilize 3D scanning technologies to capture high-accuracy digital models for prototyping, reverse engineering, manufacturing accuracy and design validation.

Collaborate with designers, engineers, and R&D teams to develop and refine prototypes for new snowboards, bindings, boots, helmets, goggles, and accessories.

Implement quality control processes to ensure prototypes meet design intent and functional performance requirements.

Maintain an organized and efficient material inventory and order supplies as needed.

Research and integrate emerging 3D printing technologies, materials and software to improve prototyping accuracy, efficiency and performance.

Assist with customization projects and limited-run production of high-performance snowboard components.

Expertly fabricate and assemble prototypes using hand tools, power tools, and precision machinery, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and functionality.

Ensure safe operation and maintenance of 3D printing equipment in compliance with company and industry safety standards.

2+ years of hands-on experience with various 3D printing technologies in a professional setting.

Strong understanding of additive manufacturing materials (plastics, resins, composites, and experimental materials).

Experience with post-processing techniques for both aesthetic and functional prototypes.

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Passion for snowboarding, product innovation, and pushing boundaries in design and manufacturing.
Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in CAD modeling and design software (NX, SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360, or similar).

Knowledge of parametric design and generative modeling.

Experience with G-code editing, machine calibration, and troubleshooting.

Experience in a sports equipment prototyping or performance-driven product development environment.

Experience with 3D scanning equipment and data processing.

Familiarity with CNC machining and traditional fabrication methods.

Background in mechanical testing and validation of prototypes.

Bachelor’s Degree, Associate's Degree or technical certification in Engineering, Computer Science, Manufacturing, Industrial Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
