Job Summary
The Technical Program Director leads and oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of complex technical projects and programs for an assigned business area within the organization. Acting as both a technology leader and integral member of the business leadership team, this role ensures that programs align with business objectives, are completed on time and within budget, and meet high-quality standards. The director works closely with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and executives to deliver innovative solutions that create measurable business value and drive organizational success. This role also maintains key technology vendor relationships and stays ahead of industry trends to champion high-potential investments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership
- Partners with business and technology leaders to define transformation roadmaps and establish technology-enabled strategies
- Translates business strategy into executable technology programs with clear outcomes and success metrics
- Identifies opportunities for operational optimization through technology to drive competitive advantage
- Builds consensus across diverse stakeholder groups at executive and operational levels
- Drives adoption of innovative mortgage technology solutions
- Functions as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders
- Champions strategic initiatives that enable growth and profitability
- Program Execution
- Owns end-to-end delivery of both tactical enhancements and strategic programs
- Manages program execution based on scope and complexity level:
- Leads tactical initiatives independently from requirements through delivery
- Partners with PMO for governance on strategic enterprise initiatives
- Defines and tracks program KPIs and business outcomes
- Establishes appropriate governance frameworks based on program scale and drive decision-making
- Proactively identifies and mitigates program risks.
- Ensures seamless coordination between business and technology teams
- Maintains accountability for program outcomes and value realization
- Adapts delivery approach based on program complexity and business impact
- Technical Leadership
- Partners with architects to design enterprise-scale solutions
- Evaluates technical alternatives against business needs and strategic objectives
- Ensures technical solutions align with enterprise architecture
- Drives technology standardization across business units to improve efficiency and reduce complexity
- Balances innovation with operational stability
- Leads technical analysis of change requests and enhancement proposals.
- Guides technology decisions that impact multiple business units
- Business Analysis
- Leads discovery and documentation of business requirements to drive strategic transformation initiatives
- Designs future-state business processes and supporting technologies that enable operational optimization and growth
- Ensures solutions comply with mortgage industry regulations
- Validates business value realization and ROI through quantifiable metrics and outcomes
- Creates scalable analysis frameworks and best practices that can be leveraged across the enterprise
- Partners with business leaders to identify opportunities for technology-enabled innovation
- Vendor and Market Leadership
- Owns and manages key technology vendor relationships
- Evaluates vendor performance and adjusts sourcing strategy based on results
- Maintains knowledge of competitor initiatives and market trends
- Identifies and advocates for innovative solutions based on industry direction
- Champions high-value technology investments that enable growth and profitability
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent related work experience required.
Experience
- Minimum 12 experience in mortgage industry operations and technology.
- Proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale technology programs on time and within budget
- Experience leading cross-functional transformation initiatives
Functional/Technical Skills
- Deep knowledge of mortgage processes and regulations
- Strong technical background with enterprise architecture experience
- Deep understanding of program and project management methodologies, enterprise architecture principles, software development life cycles, agile methodologies, and technical architectures.
- Demonstrated experience managing strategic vendor relationships
- Knowledge of competitor landscape and market trends in mortgage technology
- Track record of identifying and implementing innovative solutions that drive measurable business value
- Experience operating as a member of business leadership teams while representing technology
- Proven ability to develop and execute technology strategy in alignment with business objectives
- Requirements gathering and management skills
- Knowledge of mortgage technology platforms and integration patterns
- Change control and release management expertise
- Ability to think and plan strategically
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to act cross-functionally to influence and inspire teams.
- Expertise in tools such as Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Project, or similar program management tools.
- Proven ability to manage people, influence decision-making, and drive projects to completion.
