Job Summary
The Junior Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and clearing files to closing on VA IRRLs and FHA Streamline. Each loan package will be analyzed to determine if the loan has met guidelines, that all underwriting conditions are cleared, and that all underwriting documentation is in file and consistent with other documentation in file. The Retail Junior Underwriter will also communicate with the operations staff to make sure that any remaining loan requirements are met, that expectations in the funding process are met, and that all regulations, PHL policies and investor requirements are met.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews loans submitted to underwriting to ensure accurate information is in file, ensuring compliance with Company guidelines and Agency Guidelines. Verifies documentation is complete and works with operations staff to collect additional information as necessary.
- Analyzes conditions and facilitates sign-off of underwriting and funding conditions, including but not limited to, disclosures, asset verifications, credit history, income documents (if applicable), title documents, appraisals and all applicable compliance documents.

Position Requirements
Education
- Bachelors degree in related field preferred.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
Experience
- Minimum of four (4) years experience as a mortgage processor.
Functional/Technical Skills
- Thorough understanding of credit and an ability to review financial documents
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to think outside of the box
- Demonstrates a commitment to quality customer service
- Strong attention to detail

- Proficient in all compliance-related regulations including RESPA

- Strong PC skills (MS Office products) and experience with mortgage origination systems
