Job Summary

The Cybersecurity Engineer will play a critical role in designing and implementing security solutions that protect Planet's infrastructure, applications, and data. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in cloud security, managing vulnerabilities, and reducing attack surfaces. As a key member of the Security Operations and Incident Response team, this role will collaborate with stakeholders to identify risks, respond to incidents, and develop strategies to strengthen Planet’s overall security posture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Security Solution Design
    • Design, implement, and maintain security solutions to protect infrastructure, cloud environments, and applications.
    • Collaborate with IT and DevOps teams to integrate security into system architecture and CI/CD pipelines.
    • Recommend tools, technologies, and best practices to enhance the company’s security posture.
  • Cloud Security
    • Develop and enforce security best practices for cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
    • Conduct security assessments of cloud environments and implement security controls to ensure compliance.
    • Identify and remediate risks related to cloud misconfigurations and architecture.
  • Vulnerability Management
    • Lead the vulnerability management program, including scanning, prioritizing, and remediating identified vulnerabilities.
    • Work with cross-functional teams to address and mitigate risks in a timely manner.
    • Continuously monitor and report on vulnerabilities, trends, and mitigation progress.
  • Incident Response
    • Act as a key member of the incident response team, assisting in the detection, analysis, containment, and remediation of security incidents.
    • Develop and refine incident response plans, playbooks, and processes.
    • Conduct post-incident reviews to identify root causes and implement improvements.
  • Reducing Attack Surfaces
    • Analyze systems, networks, and applications to identify and reduce attack surfaces.
    • Implement security controls, tools, and processes to minimize exposure to threats.
    • Partner with stakeholders to ensure security measures align with business objectives.
  • Security Monitoring and Automation
    • Leverage SIEM tools, threat intelligence platforms, and automation to improve threat detection and response capabilities.
    • Identify opportunities for security automation and orchestration to improve operational efficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent related work experience required.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, AWS Security Specialty, or GIAC are preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in information security, with a focus on security engineering, cloud security, and incident response.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing security solutions in cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Hands-on experience with vulnerability management, penetration testing, and attack surface reduction.

Functional/Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and security controls.
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning tools (Nessus, Qualys, etc.) and security automation.
  • Proficiency in SIEM tools, IDS/IPS, firewalls, and endpoint security solutions.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks and standards (NIST, CIS, ISO 27001).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
