Position Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician at Southeastern Spine Institute ASC plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of surgical procedures by maintaining the highest standards of sterilization and instrument preparation. Under the direction of Registered Nursing, the technician is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, assembling, inventorying, and sterilizing of surgical instruments. This role involves strictly adhering to established guidelines, medical facility policies, and regulatory requirements at the local, state, and federal levels. The Sterile Processing Technician also assists licensed staff and physicians within approved standards and supports the overall operations of the surgical team.
The position requires a high level of collaboration with the healthcare team, a commitment to customer service, and a focus on achieving both unit and organizational goals. The technician must demonstrate attention to detail, professionalism, and a commitment to quality care in all aspects of the work. The role may require flexibility to float to other comparable nursing units as needed.
Key Responsibilities:

Instrument Decontamination & Sterilization: Effectively decontaminate, clean, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments in accordance with industry standards, protocols, and safety regulations.

Inventory Management: Maintain and manage accurate inventory of surgical instruments and supplies to ensure timely availability for surgical procedures.

Collaboration & Support: Work closely with licensed staff, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to meet patient care and surgical needs.

Adherence to Standards: Ensure compliance with internal policies, local, state, and federal guidelines to maintain a safe and effective sterile processing environment.

Customer-Focused Care: Provide excellent service to internal and external stakeholders, including physicians, staff, patients, and families, while maintaining a respectful and professional demeanor.

Flexibility: Demonstrate the ability to adapt to varying levels of supervision and work conditions. Willing to float to other nursing units as necessary.
Qualifications & Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Certification: Current IAHCSSM or CBSPD certification in sterile processing, or the ability to obtain full certification within six months of hire.

Experience: Previous hospital experience preferred but not required.

Skills: Ability to perform job duties accurately under pressure, maintain attention to detail, and adhere to safety protocols.

Physical Requirements: Must be physically capable of lifting up to 30 pounds and turning up to 125 pounds using proper body mechanics.

BLS Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Competency & Development: Completion of annual competency checklists, participation in Skills Fair, and successful completion of the hospital’s service orientation program.

Professionalism: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially, exercise discretion, and demonstrate tact when interacting with physicians, patients, and families.

Flexibility: Monday - Friday hours
