General Summary:
Novant Health Hilton Head Orthopedics is seeking a skilled and compassionate Orthopedic (Casting) Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the fabrication, fitting, and modification of orthotics and casts for patients with orthopedic needs. You will work directly with patients to provide high-quality care, ensuring comfort, safety, and proper alignment. Your role will also include maintaining accurate records, supporting the clinical team, and assisting with patient education related to their orthopedic devices.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Orthopedic & Casting Fabrication: Construct, modify, and fit orthotics and casts as per physician orders, ensuring proper alignment and patient comfort.
- Patient Interaction: Educate patients on the proper use and care of their orthotic devices and casts, providing clear instructions on follow-up care and potential adjustments.
- Patient Support: Assist patients during the casting process, providing compassionate and professional care while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Measurement & Fitting: Take precise measurements of patients’ limbs, joints, or other areas needing orthopedic devices, ensuring correct sizing and fit for optimal support.
- Adjustment & Modifications: Make necessary adjustments to casts and orthotics to ensure optimal fit and function, addressing patient concerns and comfort issues as needed.
- Collaboration with Clinical Team: Work closely with orthopedic providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best patient outcomes.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records, documenting measurements, fitting procedures, and modifications to ensure continuity of care.
- Inventory Management: Assist with maintaining and ordering supplies for orthotic and casting procedures, ensuring an adequate stock of materials at all times.
- Patient Education: Provide detailed instructions to patients and caregivers on proper care and use of orthotic devices, cast care, and any necessary precautions.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure that all procedures are performed in accordance with safety guidelines, infection control protocols, and industry standards.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an orthotics or casting technician training program preferred.
- Previous experience in an orthopedic, casting, or related medical field is preferred, but not required.
