Position Summary
• Maintains accurate patient records for the unit
• Performs and coordinates clerical and public relations duties
• Coordinates patient services and tests with ancillary hospital departments
• Acts as unit receptionist: greets, receives, and directs visitors
• Collaborates with the healthcare team and supports unit/hospital goals
• Delivers high-quality work in accordance with established standards and guidelines
• Willing and able to float to other comparable nursing units as needed
• Completes the following in accordance with South Carolina Vital Records policies:
○ Birth Certificates
○ Death Certificates
○ Paternity Acknowledgements

Education & Experience
• High school graduate or equivalent (required)
• Some college or vocational training (preferred)
• Previous hospital experience or secretary training within the medical field (preferred)
• Basic computer and typing skills required

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to work quickly and accurately
• Pleasant and tactful demeanor in stressful situations
• Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills

• Capable of working accurately under pressure and stress
• Flexible to work irregular schedules, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Must obtain Notary Public upon hire and maintain status
Maintains patient records on unit. Performs and coordinates the clerical and public relations functions for the unit, as well as coordinating patient services and tests provided by the other ancillary hospital departments; acts as unit receptionist receiving and directing visitors. Works collaboratively with the health care team, is customer focused and strives to meet unit and hospital goals. Provides quality work according to established practice standards and guidelines for the area(s) assigned. Must be willing/able to float to other (comparable) nursing units, as requested/needed. Completes in a timely manner all Birth Certificate/Death Certificate and Paternity Acknowledgement records according to South Carolina Vital Records policies and procedures.

• Must be able to perform duties accurately under stress.
• Must be able to work irregular schedules, weekends, and holidays due to staffing and census fluctuations.
• Obtains Notary Public upon hire and maintains Notary Public status.
Minimum Experience: Basic computer and typing skills required. Previous hospital experience or secretary training within the medical field preferred.
