Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Department Director and/or Charge Nurse, the Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect safe, high-quality, and effective professional nursing care. The RN assumes responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the healthcare needs of assigned patients. The nurse delivers care to a patient population ranging from infant to geriatric (unless otherwise specified) and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to achieve unit and hospital goals.

This RN serves in a leadership capacity, acting as a mentor and resource for peers, promoting professional development, and supporting quality and regulatory compliance initiatives. Must be willing and able to float to other comparable nursing units as needed.

Essential Responsibilities
    • Provide patient-centered care in accordance with nursing standards, regulatory guidelines, and hospital policies
    • Assess patient needs and condition, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate outcomes
    • Demonstrate effective communication, conflict resolution, and team collaboration
    • Serve as a mentor/resource to nursing staff by modeling best practices and assisting with skills development
    • Actively promote and facilitate practice updates and organizational changes among the team
    • Assist leadership in monitoring performance, behaviors, and competencies of staff for evaluations
    • Assign and delegate care tasks based on staff’s experience, competency, and scope of practice
    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure continuity of care
    • Support a culture of accountability, safety, and excellence in clinical practice

Required Skills & Attributes
    • In-depth understanding of nursing standards and regulatory requirements
    • Proficient in department-specific skills, capable of mentoring peers
    • Demonstrates leadership skills and active participation in training and development
    • Skilled in delegation, performance monitoring, and conflict resolution
    • Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and sound clinical judgment
    • Flexibility to work irregular shifts, including weekends and holidays

Education & Certifications
    • Current unrestricted RN license – State of South Carolina
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Labor & Delivery (L&D) – Required
    • BLS certification – Required at hire
    • NRP certification – Required before completion of orientation
    • ACLS certification – Must be obtained within 6 months of hire
    • STABLE certification – Preferred
    • AWHONN fetal monitoring – Must be maintained as per Tenet guidelines
    • Advanced certification in specialty area and/or participation in professional organizations encouraged
