Job Description: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) - Physician Practices

Location: Coastal Carolina Territory (Charleston & Hilton Head) Organization: Novant Health

Job Summary:

 We are seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee and manage the financial operations of our physician practices in Novant Health’s Coastal Carolina territory, including the Charleston and Hilton Head regions. As the Market CFO, you will be responsible for the financial performance, strategic initiatives, and operational efficiencies within our physician practices. This role will provide financial oversight, reporting, forecasting, budgeting, performance management, and capital allocation, with a focus on growth and financial sustainability. You will work closely with the Market President and Chief Executive Officer to ensure that our physician practices operate in alignment with Novant Health’s overall strategic objectives.

The position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Operational Finance at Novant Health, with a dotted line to the Market President. As a key member of the leadership team, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes and contribute to the overall success of our physician practices in the Coastal Carolina region.

Key Responsibilities

· Strategic Financial Oversight: Lead and manage financial activities for Novant Health’s physician practices in Charleston and Hilton Head, ensuring financial goals and strategic objectives are achieved.

· Financial Planning and Analysis: Oversee the monthly financial close, forecasting, and annual budgeting processes. Provide detailed financial analysis to guide decision-making and drive profitability and growth.

· Capital Management: Supervise capital allocation processes, ensuring effective investment in growth initiatives and capital projects. Develop and review business cases for expansion or enhancement opportunities in the physician practices.

· Operational Collaboration: Work closely with the Market President and senior leadership team to align financial goals with operational objectives, ensuring efficiency and maximizing financial performance across the region.

· Performance Management: Manage financial performance metrics, including revenue cycle, operating expenses, profitability, and capital expenditures, driving continuous improvement in financial outcomes.

· Leadership and Team Development: Provide leadership to the financial team, ensuring their growth, development, and alignment with organizational goals. Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and results.

· Compliance and Reporting: Ensure all financial activities are compliant with industry regulations and best practices, including GAAP, Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care policies.

Qualifications

· Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required. Master’s degree in Business Administration or Finance preferred.

· Experience:

 10+ years of progressive experience in financial management, with a focus on healthcare.

 Proven experience overseeing financial operations in a healthcare environment, particularly within physician practices, ambulatory care, or similar settings.

 Demonstrated success in managing large, multi-faceted financial operations and driving strategic growth initiatives.

Certifications: CPA preferred.

 Skills and Competencies:

 Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to engage and influence senior executives and key stakeholders.

Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making capabilities, especially in complex and ambiguous situations.

o Expertise in healthcare financial management, including knowledge of reimbursement structures, payer models, and regulatory requirements (GAAP, Medicare, Medicaid, managed care).

Proficiency in financial systems, including ERP, EHR, BI tools, and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards, with a commitment to excellence and quality patient care.
