Finance - Staff Accountant

Summary:
Process accounts payable, receivable, prepare reconciliations monthly, month end close, and back up to Senior Accountant and Payroll & Benefits Specialist.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform all job-related activities as outlined below.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary Functions:
- Vet new vendors and ensured they are properly set up in the accounting software.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual 1099’s.
- Prepare and book journal entries for payroll allocations and month-end close as assigned.
- Prepare monthly bank and other balance sheet reconciliations as assigned.
- Review and approve purchase orders to ensure accurate coding.
- Prepare weekly check deposit
- Prepare and submit annual financial reports to the regulatory agency.
Primary Functions: continue
- Assist with year-end audit preparation for internal and external audits.
- Perform work in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Assist with operating budget preparation.
- Act as a resource to others on Ad hoc projects
- Work cross-functionally with department management and others to improve workflow.
- Document procedures as needed.
- Provide the required information on time and with a high degree of accuracy and transparency.
- Ability to work independently and multi-task, with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong PC skills, including solid experience with standard Microsoft products, especially Excel.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective work relationships with coworkers, clients, members, providers, and customers.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Qualifications:
Sufficient training and experience are required to demonstrate the ability to perform the above duties and responsibilities and to attain the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Finance or Accounting or a related field.
- 2 – 5 years of experience working in accounting function.
Preferred:
- Experience serving a multinational, multicultural population.
- FQHC grant funding for nonprofit organization.
- Familiarity with Community Health Clinics and/or Indian Health Clinics.
Special Conditions of Employment:
- Work schedule, Monday-Friday – 8:00AM – 5:00PM, on-site
- CPR/ BLS certification: Maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), the American Red Cross, or an equivalent AHA accredited organization
- Certification must include an in-person, hands-on skills assessment. Online-only certifications are not accepted.
- Annual background checks: Consent to annual background checks as a condition of continued employment, to ensure compliance with organizational standards and eligibility requirements.
- For-Cause Drug Screening: Comply with drug screening requirements when initiated by the organization for cause, to support a safe, compliant, and drug-free workplace.
- Ongoing Compliance Requirements: Maintain up-to-date compliance with all required annual renewals, including professional licenses, certifications, physical examinations, TB testing, and mandatory regulatory trainings as assigned by the San Diego American Indian Health Center (SDAIHC).
