Job Summary:
Under direct supervision is responsible for assisting in all functions of real estate tax collecting and receipting of incoming monies to the County. Receipts in deposits from all County departments, assists with audits, processes receipts of delinquent taxes. Assists with maintaining County land tax records. Completes typing and filing tasks. Able to use own judgment in prioritizing assignments to be accomplished as long as state and County policies and procedures are followed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

-Issues Tax Receipts for current years taxes. Prepares monthly report showing amounts of tax, interest and total collected in each municipality.
-Issues Redemption Receipts for taxes that have been assigned a certificate number in the tax sale. Posts redemption receipts into sales book. Prepares monthly report documenting receipts issued and showing the new balance due for each sale’s year.
-Issues General Receipts for monies from all Shawano County Departments. From monies receipted in, prepares vouchers and remits proper monies to the state for their share of fees collected.
-Sets up files for current year’s taxes. Assists with posting receipts issued by municipal treasurers. Assists in the settling with each municipal treasurer.
-Prepares and sends out statements for delinquent taxes.
-Per telephone requests and over the counter requests, furnishes information on assessed values, equalized values, total tax amount, balance due on tax, legal descriptions etc.
-Signs and distributes payroll checks and expense checks for all County departments in absence of the Treasurer.
-Files electronically the WI Department of Revenue Real Estate Transfer Returns monthly report.
-Assists in the preparation of tax sale. Assigns each parcel of land with unpaid tax a certificate number.
-Process bankruptcy notices.
-Assist with bank reconciliation.
-Balances out the daily receipts and generates reports.
-Prepares and maintains inventory of Tax Deed Land.
-Maintains inventory of County owned property.
-Prepares bank deposits in absence of County Treasurer.
-Assembles expense checks with vouchers and prepares for mailing in the absence of County Treasurer.
-Assist in preparing annual budget for treasurer’s department.
-Prepares all documents for the IN-REM court proceedings to acquire title to properties with unpaid taxes.
-In absence of the County Treasurer monitors bank accounts and transfers funds between accounts as needed; electronically transfers funds to Federal and State government for withholdings and real estate transfer fees.
-Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Work Requirements:

-Accounting/Business or any combination of training and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.
-One to two years related experience.
