Position Summary:
The Quality Manager reports directly to the General Manager or Operations Manager, depending on the site. This position also indirectly reports to the Global Quality Director for guidance on rules, tools and processes. The Quality Manager is responsible for Quality Control and Quality Assurance functions and ensures the manufacturing processes and Business and Quality Management System processes are adhered to. These processes include but are not limited to receiving inspection, in-process inspection, final inspection, first article inspection (FAI), internal auditing, CAPA and feedback to management. The Quality Manager is detail oriented, reliable, and committed to continuous improvement and teamwork. This position is senior to the Quality Supervisor position and oversees all Quality Control and Quality Assurance functions and processes for the site. This position focuses on process improvement, direct collaboration with the customer and related requirements, supporting internal and external audits and data collection and reporting. 

Essential Functions:
Improvement

    • Reviews specifications, standards and/or test plans of customer designs, and reports feedback to operational management.
    • Reviews, implements, and follows up with corrective action requests derived from customer complaints, customer returns, and/or actions as assigned.
    • Develops and implements written work instructions, forms and other controlled documents.
    • Leads audits to ensure customer, industry and local and company-wide compliance to specified standards.

Teamwork and Communication

    • Leads and manages the local Quality team on daily activities, including the verification of outputs and scheduled activities such as inspection records and monitoring/testing requirements.
    • Provides feedback to management, production and engineering departments, as applicable, regarding risks, non-conformances or continuous improvement opportunities in the manufacturing and supporting processes.
    • Collaborates with various departments and processes on workforce development opportunities based on customer feedback, data analysis or as instructed by management. 

Analysis and Review

    • Reviews customer deliverables for accuracy and completeness such as FAIR’s, CAR’s, etc.
    • Inspect product or process with specialized tools. This may include weighing or measuring finished products, assessing moisture content of wood, visually inspecting workmanship and/or gauging product reliability.
    • Uses software/MS tools to track, communicate and improve quality data and assists in delivery of reports to management.
    • Monitors the ongoing sustainability of the QBMS.
    • Other tasks as directed by management.
    • Reviews ISO 9001 requirements and ensures all supporting processes are sustained and implemented including calibration, CAPA and management review.

 

 

Desired Education/Knowledge/Skills:

  • A minimum of an AS Degree in Engineering, Business or equivalent is highly desired. 3-5 years of experience in an approved quality function may be an acceptable alternative.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven quality or process control experience.
  • Highly efficient in 8D problem solving and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Ability to lead small teams, including supervision, training and evaluating employees.
  • Understanding of basic manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to communicate in English verbally and in writing. Bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • Proficient (intermediate skills) in the MS Suite (Word, Excel) and ability to learn proprietary software.
  • Ability to accurately convert decimal to fraction and fraction to decimal, as well as metric to imperial
  • Experience in understanding engineering drawings is required.
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, high volume manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work and communicate in cross functional teams such as engineering, sales, customer service and production.
  • Ability to review requirements and implement sustainable practices to conform to those requirements.
