IT Service Specialist- Platforms IBM
Clarks, Street, Somerset BA16 0EQ
The Infrastructure Platforms team manages all server-related infrastructure and hardware within the Clarks datacentres, including virtualisation, storage, compute, backup, and recovery. We now have an excellent opportunity for someone keen to gain experience in a broad range of systems and services. In larger companies, there’s often a narrower focus, but working in the small team we have in Clarks means the role has accountability for many technologies.
What You'll Do
Day-to-day activities can vary from remote management of operating systems, performance monitoring and tuning, troubleshooting (often with broad involvement from multiple teams and including out-of-hours support), hardware replacement and maintenance of storage appliances, cabling, and firmware updates. Each day can be very different and requirement for out-of-hours support is needed on a rota basis.
What You'll Bring with You
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- You will have a strong foundation in IT support, including troubleshooting hardware, operating systems, and network issues.
- Ideally 3-5 years of experience in AIX/Linux system administration.
- Experience of managing IBM Power hardware, including setup, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, firmware and software management.
- Some experience of IBM Storage is preferable including provisioning, snapshot restore and replication policy maintenance.
- An opportunity to learn IBM Workload Scheduler if you have no previous knowledge to help support our Operations Team.
- Experience in troubleshooting, capacity planning and DR procedures.
- Maintaining SFTP servers and scripts.
- An opportunity to learn IBM Spectrum Protect our backup and recovery tool of choice, including maintenance of tape libraries and disk backup targets.
- Experience working in very small teams, needing to make risk-based decisions under pressure. Must be able to communicate effectively with both the wider team and business project teams as required.

Sparking revolutions and defining generations, Clarks’ archive of over 22,000 pairs includes the inimitable Desert Boot and Wallabee – and a ground-breaking combination of invention and craftsmanship remains at the heart of what the brand does now. Cutting-edge collaborations with cultural icons and KOLs, taking strides in social change, reimagining legendary silhouettes, and making shoes that move with the world ahead – Clarks is never standing still.
