Senior Tax Accountant
Position Overview
Foundation Building Materials (FBM), is currently seeking a Senior Tax Accountant / Tax Supervisor, depending upon experience, to oversee the expansion of our Doors & Frames Division.
The Senior Tax Accountant will be involved in all aspects of indirect state and local tax compliance and planning. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and team player capable of learning quickly and multi-tasking while successfully maintaining the highest level of customer satisfaction to both external and internal customers. The position requires an ability to be hands-on and work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where attention to detail, solid analytical skills and strong communication skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare sales/use, business & occupation, gross receipts, and personal property tax returns for monthly, quarterly, and annual filings for all applicable U.S. jurisdictions
- Prepare for, and assist with, sales/use and personal property tax audits
- Research, interpret, and comply with state and local regulations, and legislative rulings
- Maintain tax calendars to assure all tax returns and tax payments are timely filed
- Assist in reconciliation of sales and use tax general ledger accounts
- Prepare resale certificates for suppliers
- Provide guidance to other Company business partners related to product taxability, tax resale/exemption certificates and business license rules by jurisdiction
- Take the lead role with configuration and troubleshooting related to the sales/use tax software platform (Vertex) and system integration with the general ledger package (SAP)
- Take the lead role in integrating newly acquired businesses into existing tax reporting processes
- Develop and implementing process improvements
- Special projects and additional duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or other four-year degree is preferred, but equivalent accounting / tax experience is acceptable
- Minimum five years indirect tax and accounting experience in a multi-unit, multi-state organization
- Strong experience with Vertex tax compliance software applications (O Series Tax Engine, Exemption Certificates and Indirect Tax Returns On-Demand
- Experience with SAP Public Cloud preferred
- Working knowledge with web-based tax research platforms (CCH Tax Research)
- Possess advanced Microsoft Excel skills (v-lookups, pivot tables, macros, etc.)
- Experience in the construction or building distribution business desired
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization
- Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines within strict time parameters
- Ability to learn the existing ERP system and accounting structure in due course
